Time Away

This past weekend, we decided to take a local getaway for a few days.  We drove for about an hour south west of Toronto to Niagara.  Niagara is probably best known for the Falls, but its also well known its farms and wineries.  With all this fresh produce, there’s also an abundance of great restaurants in the area.  On our way, we stopped by this great spot for lunch in the town of Jordan called “In on the Twenty”.  The atmosphere of the restaurant and town was very relaxing, comfortable and charming.

The tomato, fennel and parsnip puree soup.
I had the halibut.  Nice simple dish.
 Smoked trout sandwich.
Fish and chips (best dish of the meal)

After lunch, we headed to the Falls to see the sites.  There’s a Casino at the Falls and this is where we stayed for the night.  We’re not gamblers, unlike the rest of my family, but through their efforts, our hotel was comped for the night.  Great hotel room with a fantastic view of the Falls.

The view from the room.

The next day, we headed to a place called Niagara on Lake.  Its an old town with small town shops, cafes and restaurants.  We had lunch at a place called The Prince of Wales Hotel.  It was okay, but nothing special.

Tomato Bisque
Simple Hamburger with Mushrooms and Pancetta

In general, a really relaxing, scenic trip.  Thanks to the family for the room and taking care of the Beast.
