Holy SHIT!

I was just browsing around the other day and came across this auction listing from Christie’s auction house in London. The auction was from September 2012 so it’s pretty recent. This is for a pair of prints from famed Japanese artist, Yoshitomo Nara. The set is called “Cosmic Girl (Eyes Open, Eyes Shut)” and it’s a pretty nice set. There was a limited run of 500 of these back in 2008 published by the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art. Several years ago, you could spot a few of these on Ebay pretty easily from $800USD – $2,000USD for the pair. That being said, the auction estimate of $1,300 – $1,800USD seemed reasonable. What’s INSANE was the closing price of $8,489USD!!! These are pretty much just posters and aren’t even signed prints. Ridiculous! I just did a search on Ebay and there’s none right now so perhaps they’re pretty hard to come by now.
After I saw the Christie’s auction price, I checked out a few more via Artnet. Prices were definitely lower, ranging from $2,400USD – $4,000USD, but it’s still quite high. Anyways, Art is just insane sometimes. Imagine the real deal original piece prices.
