Story:  I played with Lego ever since I was a toddler.  Although I haven’t purchased any sets for a while now, I’ve always been on the lookout for interesting sets (not to mention I have some relatives and friends who are simply mad about Lego and keep me up to date).  About a year and half ago (sometime in 2011), I came across something called LEGO CUUSOO.  I wasn’t sure if it was official Lego, but the concept sounded pretty cool.  Here’s how it works (from the CUUSOO site):

1.Have an Idea? – Create a Project, share your product concept, and see what other people think.

2.Get 10,000 Supporters – Projects with 10,000 supporters are reviewed quarterly by LEGO for a chance to become an official LEGO product.

3.Receive Royalty-  If your project passes review and is chosen for production, you will receive 1% of the total net sales of the product.

I then saw this submission from Masashi from Japan for his Lego based recreation of the Back To The Future Delorean with Marty and Doc Figures.  Shit looked so awesome and brought back so many fond memories of my childhood.  Here’s some photos of his customization.

Turns out LEGO CUUSOO is legit and official.  Fast forward a year and half to August 2013 and Lego actually produced it for mass release!!!  It’s slightly different from the original but still very very cool.

For my birthday, my folks and wife tracked down a set.  They weren’t following the precise release dates and didn’t want to order online, but they went searching for me as a surprise.  They ended up going to four Lego stores with no luck (either sold out or not yet available).  Finally, they tracked one down and there was only one left on the rack!  My mom told me she was about to grab it, but there was an eight year old boy eying it in front of her.  She was so scared he would grab it (debating if it was worth throwing an elbow his way and doing a quick swipe for the last set).  Her motherly instinct kicked in and she waited patiently, prepared to give it up if he wanted it.  She waited and waited and he finally left to find his mother. As soon as the boy left , she swooped in and grabbed it.  Anyways, here’s a pick of it.  My wife and folks also through in the Trilogy for old time sake!  What a FANTASTIC GIFT!  Thanks guys.

On another note, when I checked out the CUUSOO site, I saw this bad boy.  Vote this one in!  It’s a MUST HAVE!

As always, I’m not planning on selling these, but if you’re interested, drop me an offer.
