I’ve stayed away from sneaker buying for quite a while now. That changed this month. My staple sneaker for the past ten years or so has been the Nike Air Max 1. The Air Max 1, designed by Tinker Hatfield, was introduced in 1986 and was the first shoe to showcase the visible air unit in the sole. I always have a pair in rotation and have about five pairs on ice including a few I built from Nike ID when the Nike ID customization concept first came out 10+ years ago. Anyways, I saw some great online sales this month a picked up two pairs of the Nike Air Max 1 Pinnacle Collection in light bone grey. The “Pinnacle” collection boasts premium leather construction and seem to have a higher quality build compared to the standard releases. Problem with these was that it was a women’s release but I liked the colourway and price and ended up getting large women’s sizes that fit.
When I did collect or buy sneakers, I’d stick to a few brands and staples – particularly shoes from my childhood (Pumps, Huarches, Air Max 1s, Stan Smith’s, Jordans, etc.). I stayed away from many of the new releases and never got into them. Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot about the Adidas NMDs and whenever I saw them online, I didn’t think they looked too great. I rarely saw them in retail stores and understood they could be hard to come by. Anyways, a few colourways released this month and I happened to see them available at a local Footlocker (after seeing them sell out online). Not sure if it’s because they’ve been hard to find or I was sold on the Hype, but I actually really liked them and picked up a pair. A bit pricey given there’s no leather but they are incredibly light and very comfortable. After pretty much only wearing retros, I haven’t worn anything with “newer technology” and things have definitely improved big time! Here’s a few shots of the shoes.
