Beautiful Savages
A collection of hand made figures paired with scavenged vintage toy bodies (2018).
Its been a while but I’m back…lots of Kaws
Took a small break but recently found some time (and inspiration) to post a few things and try to keep this site a little more current. Here’s a few recent updates – mostly Kaws related.
Yobokies (yoB okieS)
Despite never wearing any jewelry, I would always appreciate a nice watch. I’m a lot like my father that way. He has a few really nice timepieces but never wears them. Some of them are still in the box from the 70’s (deadstock). I think I found watches to be a general nuisance on my wrist and I thought I would always worry about wearing
XX Kaws (not the OriginalFake!)
If you go through this site, you’ll see I’m a fan of the artist Kaw’s work. I mainly collect his toy figures and can’t afford any of his paintings or prints. Back in 2006, he started his brand, “OriginalFake” with Medicom. They had a retail outlet in Tokyo which sold his figures and their clothing line and accessories. The clothing line featured his graphics prints. The pieces were nice but very expensive. I don’t recall the original
Recent Sneaker Pick Ups
I’ve stayed away from sneaker buying for quite a while now. That changed this month. My staple sneaker for the past ten years or so has been the Nike Air Max 1. The Air Max 1, designed by Tinker Hatfield, was introduced in 1986 and was the first shoe to
Recent Eats
We don’t get out to eat and try new restaurants as much as we used to and for the times that we do, we’re looking for more kid friendly, noisy places where we can afford to have the children make a mess. We recently tried two places that fit the bill and were reasonably priced with good food.
Christmas Gift
Thanks to the family for this one. Recent Devastator reissue – a nod to my childhood. This one is huge and stands almost 2ft tall. For the size, this thing is pretty good. Workmanship and materials are so so and are weak in the eyes of my friend Justin
Got em all!
After less than two weeks, I was able to get the full set of McDonald’s Peanuts figures (x2!). I have to thank my folks who sourced their friends and drove around the place looking for me. My mom called all her friends and they all came through. It seemed
The Force Awakens
I recently wrote about our friends A&A coming over for dinner the other night. They are probably the biggest Star Wars fans I know. I can handle my own, but they’re next level – they really know their shit. They brought over a few gifts for the kids to thank us for hosting. Knowing my son was into Star Wars (thanks to me), they brought him one of the newest toys, the tripple blade lightsaber of new villain Kylo Ren from the coming “Force Awakens” movie. We’ve been following the release previews and sneak peeks so my son new what…
Go Get It!
Our good friends A&A came by for diner with their daughter last night. On their way out, they mentioned having to make a stop at McDonald’s to find the remaining Charlie Brown figures they needed from McDonalds’ recent “The Peanuts Movie” promotion. I inquired a bit more and thought the figures were pretty interesting. Here’s what they look like: There’s 12 in total and I think they’re around $2each. Inspired by A&A, on my way home from swimming this morning, we stopped by McDonald’s to see what they had. They had Number 7, 8 and 9 so I picked up…
OG & Nike just doing it!
I played basketball all through grade school and high school and continued to play pick up since. It was through basketball that I first got into sneakers. The first pair I recall having was a pair of simple white Adidas. They were nothing fancy, just whites from a sale bin. My dad then splurged on a pair of sale Pumps for me which looked absolutely ridiculous but I loved. Shawn Kemp eventually became my favourite player and I had a few pairs of the black and white pumps (I think they were the Kamikazi’s). I then got onto the swoosh with…
Lobster Roll!
I was walking around the city one day and came across this restaurant called Smoked and Cracked. It didn’t look fancy at all, almost like a take out joint with a few tables to eat in. What caught my attention were the lobster traps in the window and the chalkboard menu stationed outside on the street with “lobster” written all over it. They seemed to specialize in all things lobster. The menu had lobster mac and cheese, steamed or boiled lobster, lobster chowder and lobster rolls. It was just after noon when I passed by so I was thinking lunch. …
This is Not a Toy @ The Design Exchange in Toronto!
I haven’t posted in a long time as it’s been challenging to find some free time to put a post together. Also, after pausing for so long, it’s been hard to get back on the horse. I haven’t written about Boutiqueoeuff (the name of this blog) for some time so it’s fitting that this first blog entry is about the Oeuffs. Back in February, the Design Exchange (DX) museum in Toronto held an exhbition called “This is Not a Toy”. The exhibition showcased “contemporary sculptures, figures and artworks freauing works by Takashi Murakami, KAWS, Coarse, Huck Gee, Friends With You…
Boutiqueoeuff
Original “Oeuff” platform toy and customized samples (2004). Back in 2004, having been a collector of vinyl toys for some time, I decided to take a shot at creating my own figure. I designed the “Oeuff” platform figure modeled off the egg or oeuf theme, pulled some money together, found a manufacturer and within six months, I approved the sculpt and we were ready for production! Could it be that simple? Unfortunately not. Between production delays, factory errors, a financial crises and shady middle men, production eventually halted. Despite these complications, I have no regrets. I learned a lot, didn’t…
