Story: My wife and I came across this piece one afternoon when we were driving around looking for art supplies and furniture along Queen St. West in Toronto. We saw a sign for a local art fair outside the Gladstone Hotel and decided to drop in. There were a variety of artists showcasing their works and I was drawn to these plush looking figures. I went to pick one up and it was SOLID and HEAVY! Turns out these plush looking figures were made of concrete. I loved the playful theme contrasting the unexpected coldness and weight of the concrete. Although we ended up choosing this one, there were a good variety of other figures available which you can see here. On a side note, years later, I found myself taking part in a clay/sculpting workshop at C1 Artspace in Toronto. I learned from some great sculptors and although I never worked with Ross Bonfanti, I think he was a co-founder at the space and could see his work all over the place. Small world!
